My client are a specialist mechanical building services engineering firm operating across Ireland and mainland Europe. Theyve delivered major projects in sectors such as data centres, pharmaceuticals, power generation, industrial, commercial, office and healthcare. Their reputation is built on technical excellence, reliability and consistently delivering complex projects to the highest standards.

With a rapidly growing footprint and an expanding project pipeline across Europe, they’re now strengthening their commercial/estimating function with the appointment of an Estimating Manager.

This role is central to how my client selects, prices and secures new work. You’ll lead the estimating process end-to-end, shape tendering strategy, mentor the estimating team, and work closely with Directors, Commercial and Project Management to ensure accurate, competitive and commercially aligned submissions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the ongoing development of the estimating department, its systems and processes.
• Manage the WIP list and tender pipeline, ensuring the team is focused on strategically important opportunities.
• Review all tender documentation, distribute tasks within the team and oversee measurements, take-offs and project costing.
• Lead supplier engagement — issuing enquiries, negotiating best value and ensuring accurate pricing of all materials and subcontract packages.
• Prepare and review tender submissions including BOQs, pricing documents, prelims and supporting documentation.
• Identify value engineering opportunities and present recommendations before submission.
• Work closely with Directors/Commercial Manager to finalise pricing and commercial strategy on each bid.
• Liaise with external estimators as required.
• Lead the handover process post-award, ensuring accurate and detailed summaries are transferred to the operations team.
• Review CVRs and job performance reports to refine estimating norms and continuously improve accuracy.

Key Skills:
• Proven experience in mechanical estimating, ideally within the M&E or building services sector.
• Third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Cost Engineering, Building Services or similar (or equivalent experience).
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, process pipework and building services engineering.
• High-level ability to interpret drawings/specs, perform accurate take-offs and prepare detailed BOQs.
• Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills and supplier management capability.
• Highly organised, analytical and detail-focused.
• Strong IT capability (Microsoft Suite, CostX, Trimble or similar).
• Excellent communication and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
