As a Hire Depot Manager, you’ll be the driving force behind our equipment rental operations in our Newtown depot. You’ll be responsible for leading the team, managing day-to-day hire activities, and ensuring the customer is at the centre of everything we do. This is a unique opportunity to run your own depot with the autonomy to drive performance, deliver top-tier customer service, and grow the business. Reporting directly to the Group Hire Manager, this is a critical leadership role where you’ll oversee equipment readiness, operational excellence, and strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily logistics, ensuring all equipment is serviced, maintained, and ready for hire.
- Drive depot performance by identifying and converting new business opportunities.
- Manage equipment inventory levels and utilisation, and coordinate prompt deliveries and collections.
- Implement efficient systems and procedures to streamline operations and improve service delivery.
- Set and monitor depot sales targets, budgets, and performance KPIs.
- Analyse market trends and competitor activity to inform pricing and strategy.
- Support internal reporting processes including performance summaries, customer feedback, and issue resolution logs.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing depot team to deliver exceptional service.
- Create and maintain a positive, productive, and safety-conscious working environment.
- Conduct regular staff briefings, performance reviews, and development planning.
- Identify training needs and coordinate appropriate learning and development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Customer Service & Engagement

Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure depot compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.

- Conduct regular risk assessments, inspections, and tool-box talks.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and incident reporting.
Administrative & Financial Management
- Oversee administrative tasks including timesheets, purchasing, documentation, and hire contracts.
- Manage depot cost controls, including staffing, maintenance, fuel, and consumables.
- Maintain accurate hire records and ensure timely billing and invoicing.
- Liaise with central accounts, HR, and logistics functions to support wider company goals.

- Previous experience in the plant or tool hire industry.
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience in managing and developing a team.

- Demonstrated knowledge and application of health and safety standards.
Preferred:
- Depot management or similar operations-level leadership experience.
- Local market knowledge and strong commercial awareness.
