Our client, a leading organisation within the water and wastewater engineering sector, is seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join their expanding team. This key position involves producing accurate and analytical estimates for mechanical works while ensuring proposals meet technical and commercial requirements.

The successful candidate will work closely with design, project management, and procurement teams to deliver cost-effective, innovative, and compliant solutions for a variety of engineering projects. This opportunity suits a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and a passion for delivering high-quality results in a dynamic environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for mechanical projects based on drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure all estimates reflect realistic risk levels and comply with company and industry standards.
  • Participate in the design development process, assessing buildability, materials, and cost efficiency.
  • Provide early-stage pricing support and input into tender strategies.
  • Ensure all governance and risk management processes are followed and properly documented.
  • Support the preparation of tender programmes, resource schedules, and pricing documentation.
  • Work with procurement teams to identify suppliers and subcontractors and obtain competitive quotations.
  • Maintain awareness of industry developments, technologies, and innovations.
  • Contribute to cost coding, financial modelling, and post-project analysis to improve estimating accuracy.

 

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical estimating, ideally within water, wastewater, or construction sectors.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and construction methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
