Elite Talent Hub are currently working with a well-established Irish engineering contractor specialising in water and wastewater infrastructure on a Commissioning Process Engineer appointment. This is a hands-on, site-facing role supporting the commissioning and optimisation of treatment plants across multiple projects nationwide.

The position suits someone who enjoys being close to the process — from raw influent through to treated water performance — and who wants exposure to full life-cycle commissioning, optimisation, client sign-off and continuous improvement rather than desk-based design only.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the commissioning, start-up and optimisation of water and wastewater treatment processes across live projects.

  • Prepare and execute process commissioning test documentation in collaboration with project and design teams.

  • Carry out jar testing, on-site sampling and laboratory analysis to determine optimum chemical dosing and process setpoints.

  • Set initial PLC/HMI/SCADA process parameters and provide increased-care support post handover of flows.

  • Monitor plant performance, alarms and trends, making and documenting process adjustments to meet compliance and performance targets.

  • Compile commissioning, validation and performance reports for client submission and sign-off.

  • Support troubleshooting, fault-finding and optimisation of existing treatment processes, including sludge treatment systems.

  • Work closely with site teams and clients to ensure a collaborative, solutions-driven commissioning phase.

Key Skills

  • Degree-qualified (Level 7 minimum) in Chemical, Environmental, Water/Wastewater Engineering or similar.

  • 3+ years’ experience in a process commissioning or operations role within water or wastewater treatment.

  • Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, including clarification, filtration and chemical treatment.

  • Hands-on experience with sampling, on-site laboratory testing and process optimisation.

  • Familiarity with PLC/SCADA-driven treatment systems and process data analysis.

  • Strong communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients during commissioning and handover.

  • Full driving licence and flexibility to travel to sites nationwide.
