Position Overview:

Our client is looking for a Design Lead to oversee and enhance the performance of their Design team. This role involves leading, coaching, and mentoring a group of Design Engineers, ensuring they meet operational goals in line with company policies and procedures. The Design Lead will manage recruitment, onboarding, performance, retention, employee engagement, and development within the Design team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage Design Engineers across multiple projects.
  • Resolve design and coordination challenges.
  • Oversee drawing standards and specifications.
  • Manage and coordinate LCBP standards, inspections, and accreditation processes.
  • Update and implement Design SOPs, manuals, and procedures based on legislative, company, and client requirements.
  • Monitor and update design project schedules in project management systems.
  • Develop tools to improve design efficiency and execution.
  • Guide the team through audits and inspections.
  • Train, mentor, and support employees in all aspects of design work.
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, and employee development within the team.
  • Develop workforce plans and ensure staffing aligns with budget and timeline requirements.
  • Analyze training needs and provide onboarding and continuous education.
  • Maintain technical competence and efficient practices in the team.
  • Provide leadership on team performance, issue resolution, and employee development.
  • Ensure timely communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promote a positive HSEQ culture and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation.

 

Reporting to: Head of Operations.

Hours: 37hrs per week. Days: Monday Friday.

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in Fire Sprinkler Design
  • Proficiency in Revit
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage a heavy workload
  • Adaptable with a positive approach to work
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Exceptional time management and attention to detail

 

Desirable Criteria:

  • LPCB certification (Basic, Intermediate, FHC exams)
  • AutoCAD/SolidWorks experience
  • Project Management certification
