Our client, a leading distributor with operations across multiple locations in Ireland, is seeking a qualified and motivated Health & Safety Manager to champion safety standards across all their sites. This is a critical role focused on shaping a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance, and embedding best practices in occupational health and safety.
Reporting to: Managing Director
Location: Group-wide across all operational sites (including locations in Cork, Kildare, and Wicklow)
Travel between branches is expected as part of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and roll out a unified Health & Safety strategy using frameworks such as ISO 45001.
- Design and enforce policies aligned with Irish health & safety laws and recognised standards.
- Act as the internal advisor on all workplace health, safety, and risk matters.
- Lead risk assessments and implement control measures to mitigate hazards.
- Oversee safety performance at all branches, ensuring consistent application of procedures.
- Deliver staff training on topics such as manual handling, PPE, traffic flow, and incident response.
- Monitor operational layouts to reduce risks related to vehicle movements and storage.
- Conduct internal audits and routine inspections to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, producing reports and introducing corrective actions.
- Maintain all required safety documentation and records, including audit logs and registers.
- Represent the business in dealings with insurance firms, external auditors, and authorities.
- Foster an environment of awareness, accountability, and continual improvement in health and safety.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in a similar health & safety position, ideally within warehousing, manufacturing, or logistics.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 systems and practical audit experience.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Relevant health & safety credentials (e.g., IOSH, H.Dip in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent).
- Proven track record of building or improving a safety function from scratch.
- Strong working knowledge of Irish H&S regulations and industry best practices.
- Experience delivering training sessions and onboarding new staff on safety procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and digital reporting systems.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between sites.
Desirable:
- Experience working across several physical locations or branches.
- Understanding of warehouse layout risks, vehicle-pedestrian separation, and traffic flow design.
- Certifications in First Aid, Fire Safety, or Manual Handling Instruction.
