The Role:
The Design Lead will assist the Design team in advancing their activities. This role involves leading, managing, coaching, mentoring, training, and supporting a team of Design Engineers to help them reach their full potential. They will implement training and coaching programs to meet operational needs in line with company strategy, policies, procedures, and processes. The Design Lead will oversee the recruitment, onboarding, performance management, retention, employee engagement, and learning development of the Design team.
Reporting to: Head of Operations.
Hours: 40hrs per week.
Days: Monday – Friday.
Essential Criteria
Degree in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering or related discipline
Minimum 5 years Fire Sprinkler Design Experience
Experience using Revit
Demonstrated skills in Project Management
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to prioritize work and manage a challenging workload
Flexible, adaptable, and positive attitude towards work
Proven record of building and maintaining professional working relationships; being a trusted advisor to colleagues
Excellent time management, attention to detail, and reliability skills.
Desirable Criteria
LPCB - Basic, Intermediate, and FHC Exams
Experience with AutoCAD/Solid Works

Duties & Responsibilities
Lead and manage Design Engineers overseeing multiple projects.
Resolve coordination and design issues.
Manage drawing standards and specifications.
Oversee LCBP standards and inspection/accreditation processes.
Develop and update Design SOPs, Manuals, and Procedures in compliance with legislative, regulatory, company, and client requirements.
Schedule and plan upcoming work, providing updates to relevant departments.
Track, monitor, and update the progress of designs in project management systems.
Develop and implement standard design tools to enhance project efficiency.
Support Design Engineers to ensure compliance with internal and external audits and inspections.
Coach, mentor, and train employees on all aspects of Design and related functions.
Manage recruitment, onboarding, performance management, retention, employee engagement, and learning and development of team members.
Develop a Workforce Plan to meet staffing requirements on time and within budget.
Review and update job descriptions and key competencies for each role in the department.
Analyse training needs with managers; plan and deliver training, including staff onboarding.
Ensure technical competence and efficient work practices within the team.
Support and mentor team members to build capability, manage people risk, and ensure a positive employee experience.
Demonstrate accountability for team performance, working with the team on deliverables and liaising with functional management to resolve issues.
Communicate with all stakeholders promptly.
Promote and maintain a positive HSEQ culture and safe work environment in conjunction with the Health & Safety Statement and support CSR initiatives.
Engage in all company-led initiatives while ensuring best practice standards.
Ensure all documentation is accurate, timely, legible, and up to date.
